Why is it important to know if you’re out of balance?

When a person is “in balance”, they have better control of their emotions, are more calm, and generally happier.

The Universal Law of Balance says that If we have too much of one thing, we do not have enough of another. Therefore, when the scales are tipped too much to one side, the other side will suffer.

Getting back into balance is a form of self-care.

Here’s how to bring yourself back into balance

Having self-awareness that you are out of alignment is the first step – but it’s also important to stay mindful and do a self check-in throughout the process.

Dedicate some time to analyzing the areas of your life that are out of balance, and write them down along with their counterparts. For example:

too much work = not enough fun
too much reality = not enough mystery
too much order = not enough creativity
too much giving = not enough receiving
too much clarity = not enough dreaming
too much intensity = not enough frivolity
too much predictability = not enough spontaneity
↔ This goes both ways! ↔

You may opt to put your list up somewhere visible as a self-reminder, or include your thoughts in a journal. Either way, putting the information on paper turns a thought or idea into something tangible. As a result, it is brought to life.

Now that you know the areas you need to focus on, take some time to think about how you can bring more of what you’re lacking into your life. You may have to get a bit creative, just don’t let your fears keep you from breaking outside your comfort zone.

Planning includes putting your ideas down on paper. For example, you may wish to put together a list of realistic goals relating to your future well-balanced self. After that, work toward attaining these goals. As a consequence, you will find satisfaction in checking off these goals, one by one.

Take deliberate action

Now that you have a plan, put it into fruition. The most important thing to keep in mind is to be deliberate about it. When we’re out of balance, it’s often because we are on “coast”. Thus, being deliberate about balance is going to be crucial.

Lather, rinse, repeat

Being out of balance is a chronic situation, so you’ll have to keep repeating the process. As time goes on, you may find that you become imbalanced in different ways than you had in the past, and you will undoubtedly need to make adjustments.

I recommend setting a reminder on your calendar based on a timeline that works for you. I personally use the solstices and equinoxes to re-evaluate my own balance level. Because these days align with the change of seasons and the astrological calendar, it’s perfect for making self-care adjustments.

If you think you might need to do this more often, you could make it part of your new moon manifesting ritual or do your self-check during one of the quarter moons when it is perfectly balanced between light and dark.
