The truth about what’s causing your stress and anxiety

The truth about what's causing your stress and anxiety - Jen Merkel Holistic Hypnosis and Wellness

The truth about what’s causing your stress and anxiety: It’s something we all face, every day.

Sometimes things can get overwhelming, especially now during the COVID-19 pandemic. You may be worrying about the health and welfare of your loved ones and yourself. You may have lost your job, or are worried about the prospect of being downsized. If you are still working, you may be forced to take on additional responsibilities. What we all have in common: Facing uncertainty and big day-to-day changes in how we do things in our daily lives.

But there’s a lot more to your anxiety than just a list of stress factors

We all have stress factors, but how we react to those stress factors will make a difference as to whether we can maintain a healthy mind and body.

What’s causing your stress?

What's causing your stress?

According to this WebMD article, a large portion of the causes of stress are work-related. Things like working long hours, having too heavy a workload, boss and co-worker drama, discrimination, and fear of being terminated are all on the list.

There are also stressors outside of work that can deeply affect us. This would include things like the illness or death of a loved one, finances, major life changes, strained personal relationships, and our own physical, mental, and emotional health.

In all of the above cases, it boils down to how each of these things affect us on the inside. WebMD lists this in four sections:

  • Uncertainty – your feeling of not having control of the situation
  • Your attitudes and perceptions – worrying about how something will turn out
  • Your unrealistic expectations – feeling that you need to be perfect, and so do the situations surrounding you
  • Change – life events, even joyful ones

Good job, WebMD. But I’m going to challenge you. ALL of this can be broken down still further to ONE. SINGLE. THING.

No matter how you look at it, each of these stress factors is based around FEAR

All stress is based on fear

Fear has a purpose. It is our ego’s way of protecting us. Keeping us from doing something foolish. If you have anxiety, fear is definitely difficult to ignore.

When fear gets out of control – to the point where it causes anxiety, for example – you will need to change your perspective in order to maintain your mental, emotional, and even physical health.

There is no easy road, but hypnotherapy is something that can help you on this journey. In fact, managing stress and anxiety is one of the most common things hypnosis is used for.

We probably can’t remove the stress in your life, but we can change how you react to it.

Managing stress and anxiety using hypnosis is one of my specialties. Through my Hypnosis for Stress & Anxiety Management program, you will teach your brain how to react more calmly when you find yourself in stressful situations. You’ll begin to recognize your red flags, and learn how to replace those anxious feelings with a more calm state of mind.
